Colitis (Inflammation of the Colon)

Colitis is an auto-immune disorder. Here are its common symptoms:

• Diarrhea
• Abdominal pain
• Bloating
• Hypersensitivity in left abdominal area
• Pus-like feces with blood

Treatment based on TCM

In TCM, we use acupuncture to treat colitis, which can be categorized into three types:

1. "Liver and stomach meridian disharmony" type colitis should be treated by unblocking or calming down the liver meridian and enhancing stomach function.
2. "Spleen deficiency" type colitis should be treated by nourishing the spleen meridian and enhancing large intestine function.
3. "Kidney deficiency" type colitis should be treated by enhancing "yang" function and balancing the Qi of the abdominal region, which TCM identifies as the "lower burner".
